Job Opportunity: Clinical Development Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Position Details

Post: Clinical Development Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedics

Location: Between The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley, and Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock


Role Description

Applicants are invited to apply for this role within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Team in Clyde. This position is ideal for individuals who have completed foundation training or equivalent and wish to gain further experience before applying for specialty training. Candidates must have recent surgical specialty experience at FY2+ level and demonstrate successful completion of Immediate Life Support (ILS) training.


Responsibilities and Opportunities

The successful candidate will balance ward-based clinical practice with protected time for teaching and professional development. There are opportunities for those interested in medical education to develop and deliver teaching to medical students.


Unit Details

The Orthopaedic Unit in Clyde is based at both Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley and Inverclyde Royal Hospital. The trauma unit at Royal Alexandra Hospital handles acute inpatient and day case trauma. Elective services are provided at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, with outpatient services at both hospitals.


Supervision and Development

The appointee will be assigned a Clinical/Educational Supervisor. Regular meetings will support the development of a Personal Development Plan (PDP) based on previous experience and career goals.


Additional Duties

Contributions to the junior out-of-hours rota are expected, with an associated pay supplement. The rota at Royal Alexandra Hospital is resident on-call, shared among 10 junior doctors, including internal cover for leave. The post will include rotations to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for a set number of weeks.


Additional Information

This post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and is not recognized for training by NES. It requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.

Applicants must hold GMC full registration, a Licence to Practice, and have completed foundation or equivalent training.
