Shoosmiths, Lee-On-The-Solent, England, United Kingdom
Banking & Finance Paralegal
We have a fantastic opportunity for a paralegal to join our professional support team. This is a new position, created to support our banking and finance professional support lawyers (PSLs) within the Corporate Division.
Our national banking and finance team advises clients on a range of financing transactions across a wide variety of sectors, often with a multi‑jurisdictional element. Acting for borrowers, lenders and investors gives us a practical understanding of the needs of all parties to a financing transaction. Our expertise extends to corporate lending, leverage finance, asset finance, real estate finance (investment and development), project finance and invoice discounting both on a bilateral and a syndicated basis. We work closely with some of the UKs major banks and financial institutions and have approved panel status with many of them.
Our banking and finance PSLs provide essential support to enhance the efficiency and expertise of our legal advisers by developing and maintaining precedents, delivering training, providing legal and market updates and responding to technical queries.
Main Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities will primarily involve (but will not be limited to):
* Assisting with the delivery of training, including preparation and management of training materials, updating the training programme, liaising with presenters, liaising with PAs on invites and attendance, and editing of training summaries.
* Identifying precedents affected by legal developments and assisting with the processing of approved changes across the precedent suite.
* Conducting horizon scanning, assisting with research on new legislation and with the preparation of legal and market updates.
* Assisting with research on technical queries and updating know‑how resources.
* Producing market trend summaries and monitoring transaction data.
Skills And Experience
* Law degree, LPC or CILEX qualification.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Accuracy and attention to detail.
* Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and, ideally, familiarity with legal tech platforms and AI.
* Ability to prioritise, be organised and efficient.
* Flexibility with the capability to adapt to change, new practices and cope under pressure but with the ability to recognise when to seek assistance.
* Ability to integrate within a team and able to work on your own initiative.
* Pro‑active and self‑motivated with a positive approach.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have prior experience working in a busy banking team.
