The post holder will act as an experienced Advanced HPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to provide continuous and comprehensive Pathology services, aiding effective diagnosis and treatment of patients. They will assist in delivering a high-quality, cost-effective clinical service and support service development aligned with departmental objectives.
The post holder will provide training and quality management expertise in Cellular Pathology across NCA sites. This includes responsibilities in staff training (competencies, registration, and specialist portfolios) and quality management, acting as a senior team member to ensure good governance and support the quality management system.
Cellular Pathology services for NCA are based in Salford and Oldham, with the post mainly based at Salford but supporting across sites. The department processes approximately 98,000 histology requests annually, covering Neurology, Dermatology, Breast, Head & Neck, Gynaecology, Gastroenterology, Urology, and Respiratory. Additionally, it handles 10,000 diagnostic cytology and Andrology cases.
The role involves managing daily activities, staff training, and departmental quality systems. Responsibilities include staff development, competency assessment, results analysis and interpretation, and participation in technical activities requiring advanced knowledge. The post holder will ensure efficient workflow, maintain HCPC registration, and act as training manager and deputy for the Operations Manager when needed.
