As a Family and Carer Ambassador, you will provide practical and emotional support to families and carers of those with complex mental health needs. You will also offer advocacy to ensure that the families, carers, and patients' needs and views are heard and acted upon, regardless of communication needs. You will identify and address cross-organisational challenges and work closely with key agencies across health, education, social care, and voluntary sectors, including links with adult services for transition planning or support.
To succeed in this role, you must be proactive, compassionate, detail-oriented, organized, and possess strong communication skills. You should be passionate and sensitive about effecting change and empowering patients, families, and carers. This is a new post, offering opportunities to shape and develop the role and build relationships with stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting families from admission to discharge
- Facilitating understanding of inpatient processes
- Supporting communication between clinical units and families
- Empowering families to participate in planning
- Networking to support families with information and signposting
- Acting as liaison and supporting quality improvement initiatives
- Raising concerns and escalating issues when necessary
- Championing families and carers as partners in care
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring confidentiality
- Engaging in policy development and decision-making
- Providing carer support and ensuring follow-up calls and documentation
- Building links with local carer charities and attending meetings
- Creating relapse prevention and support plans
- Monitoring the progress of the carer strategy
Promoting Rights and Signposting responsibilities include:
- Supporting understanding of Care Plan Approach and CETR
- Educating about rights and legal frameworks
- Signposting to community resources and legal advice
