Job description
The Reading Community Outreach Service supports people in their recovery of poor mental health. We specifically aim to provide preventative support to people from ethnically diverse communities to ensure that they have access to the right support at the right time, to who are refugees and asylum seekers and those who may have experienced discrimination or injustice. We also aim to support people to integrate into communities and to achieve self-sufficiency.
Reading Community Outreach Services has been designed to make a real difference to people’s lives and to target support to refugees, asylum seekers and communities in more deprived area of Reading.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
As an outreach volunteer, you will support the Outreach Workers to support our clients around their mental wellbeing and signpost them to other services within the community enabling them to take charge of their wellbeing, promoting independence and equipping them with the information they need in order to get the support they require.
Key Task will be
* To research signposting information about local services in our directory
* To present this in a flexible and adaptive way to the service-users
* To promote community pop-ups at events and outreach days
* To assist the support worker team with gathering information and setting up the pop-up space.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? YOUR SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting vulnerable people with mental health issues and who had their own lived experience of mental distress or experience of being a refugee or asylum seeker.
The volunteer role is best suited for someone who is compassionate, enjoys working with others, can learn in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively with professionals, service-users, and the general public.
