The Job Role Details:
You will take a lead role in planning and managing the farm's cropping programmes, overseeing day-to-day operations, and driving technical development across root crop and vegetable production.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and manage arable and potato cropping from establishment to harvest
2. Drive technical development, particularly within root crop and vegetable production
3. Develop and manage crop rotations, nutrition, irrigation, and cultivation programmes
4. Monitor plant health, pests, and disease, implementing preventative strategies
5. Lead, supervise, and train permanent and seasonal team members
6. Plan workloads and maintain a safe, positive working culture
7. Oversee machinery and equipment maintenance and performance
8. Assist with budgeting, cost control, and purchasing
9. Provide timely crop reports, yield assessments, and operational KPIs
10. Ensure H&S compliance, risk assessments, and accurate records
11. Promote sustainable practices including soil health and water stewardship
Ideal Candidate Skills & Qualifications:
12. Proven experience managing commercial arable and/or root crop production
13. Strong leadership skills with an organised and proactive approach
14. Experienced with modern machinery and precision farming technologies
15. Commercially aware with sound decision-making skills
16. Strong communicator, able to build trust and foster teamwork
17. Relevant agricultural qualifications preferred (not essential)
18. Passion for sustainable farming and new crop development
Working Hours:
19. Full-time. Peak periods may require extended hours and weekend availability.
