The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Clinic provides support to providers in the delivery of timely, quality patient health care services in a clinic environment. Duties include collecting patient information, providing patient care, communicating with patients and care team members. May work in a team supporting multiple providers.
Individuals in this role will work in an outpatient clinic setting.
Principle Responsibilities
1. Provides patient care support as delegated by Provider or RN. Administers therapies including medications, scheduling follow-up visits (and prior authorization), or other support specific to a specialty provider. Provides patient care pre/post encounter or procedure, preventative or other health information. Collaborates with Provider and team on improving and managing quality goals. May start, monitor, and discontinue IVs (dependent on site needs and training).
2. Rooms patients, manages patient flow, and obtains adequate patient medical information/data. Performs rooming, accurately measures patients’ vital signs, and records in medical record. Coordinates communication of medical information and confirms information with patients when necessary, documenting per practice policies and standards. Assists patients in preparing for physician exams, including providing psycho-emotional support. Assists in collection, labeling, and processing specimens timely and accurately. Assists physicians with procedures, including preparation of medication as required. Organizes patient flow for efficient movement of physicians between rooms. Provides outbound calls to follow up with patients as directed, including notifying patients of test results. Charts information accurately in the patient medical record. May check out and schedule follow-up visits with providers or staff before the patient leaves.
3. Receives or initiates patient phone calls. Answers phones professionally and promptly. May confirm or reiterate patient symptoms using the patient's own words. Arranges for appropriate appointments or forwards to RN or provider for review. Documents all encounters and interactions accurately in the electronic medical record.
4. Processes physician orders. Performs clinical functions within scope of license as ordered by physician. Responds promptly to patient needs and requests. Reviews patient charts before visits to ensure test results and reports are available. Provides instructions to patients as directed by physicians.
5. Cleans, prepares, organizes, and restocks exam rooms. Ensures proper maintenance and sterilization of instruments. Restocks supplies according to standards and patient needs.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
* Associate's or Vocational degree from a Board of Nursing approved LPN program
Preferred Qualifications
* Two years of clinic LPN experience
Licenses/Certifications
* Licensed Practical Nurse MN BON or Wisconsin (if working in Wisconsin or interacting with Wisconsin patients remotely)
* May require both state licenses depending on services provided
* Must meet at least ONE of the following:
* Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
* Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
* Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
Physical Demands
* Light Work: lifting up to 20 lbs occasionally, up to 10 lbs frequently
