Senior Product Developer (Childrenswear)

Job Purpose
This position will deliver the end‑to‑end product development process in the Children’swear Outerwear Category within Burberry’s Product Development function. The role will also act as deputy to the Product Development Director and line manager to the Product Development Assistant, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
Responsibilities
* Build and maintain a close partnership with Design, acting as technical partner, attending fittings, providing feedback on technical feasibility, brainstorming ideas to ensure design vision translated into product.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with vendors, developing knowledge of vendor capability and availability to meet demands, negotiating costs and aesthetic changes.
* Implement and manage the critical path from concept to pre‑production with design and manufacturers, ensuring deadlines adhered to and following up on prototype/sample issues.
* Deliver high‑quality prototypes and samples in line with margin targets.
* Ensure functionality, consistency and standardisation, conducting risk assessment and proactive actions throughout development.
* Have strong technical knowledge across all product types from coats to sportswear, including performance, testing and functionality.
* Collaborate with Product Engineering teams for product testing, leveraging technical knowledge and negotiating aesthetic changes.
* Support production meetings, follow‑ups at vendors, and technical requirements for prototypes and samples.
* Act as line manager to the Product Development Assistant, offering guidance and supporting development.
* Support the Product Development Director and deputise as needed.
* Accountable for keeping PLM updated with 100% accuracy.
Personal Profile
* Ability to partner with Senior Designers, interpreting creative aesthetic and design vision.
* Technical capability and product knowledge to influence the Design team.
* Experience managing vendor relationships and delivering clear briefs.
* Critical path management, identifying risks and recommending mitigations.
* Budget management with commercial awareness, balancing creativity and cost.
* Experience working on site with vendors and operational knowledge of factories.
* Excellent communication, negotiation skills, and cross‑functional collaboration.
* In‑depth knowledge of fashion and products in relevant category, trend awareness.
* Computer skills: PLM, Excel, InDesign.
