Pupil Engagement Assistant – Secondary Mainstream school
Milk Education are seeking a passionate Pupil Engagement professional to join an outstanding team supporting 11–16-year-olds with Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This provision delivers inclusive, personalised education designed to meet individual needs and aspirations.
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Responsibilities & Duties:
1. Build positive, trusting relationships with students who struggle to attend or engage due to emotional or social challenges.
2. Support young people experiencing emotional-based school avoidance (EBSA), helping them reintegrate and remain engaged in learning through carefully planned strategies.
3. Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to develop effective approaches that remove barriers to engagement.
4. Provide both academic mentoring and wellbeing support to help students develop confidence, resilience, and motivation.
5. Promote positive attitudes towards learning and help students develop strategies to manage anxiety and stay focused.
6. Assist classroom staff in creating inclusive, nurturing environments that meet the needs of vulnerable learners.
Requirements:
7. Experience supporting young people with emotional, behavioural, or social difficulties—particularly those with EBSA or low attendance (desirable).
8. A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students with complex emotional needs.
9. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external professionals.
10. Excellent organisational abilities and confidence to work independently where required.
11. A genuine commitment to helping every student thrive, regardless of their starting point.
