Director of Finance Location: Hybrid (Cardiff office presence, with flexibility for home and other office visits) Salary: £70,000 Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (with flexibility) Are you a strategic financial leader passionate about making a difference? I am delighted to be supporting a valued organisation in the centre of Cardiff who seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Director of Finance to join their team. This is a pivotal role, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, where you'll be instrumental in shaping the financial future and ensuring the sustainable delivery of vital services. As Director of Finance, you'll be the strategic financial lead, overseeing all aspects of the organisation's finances, ensuring probity, compliance, and prudent management. Key Responsibilities: Financial Strategy & Leadership: Work closely with the CEO and Trustees to define and implement financial strategies that drive growth and sustainability, including assessing commercial opportunities and managing risk. Operational Oversight: Manage the entire Finance function, ensuring all accounting requirements (banking, payroll, HMRC, pensions, investments, reserves, cashflows) are met accurately and on time. Reporting & Analysis: Produce and present comprehensive financial reports, budgets, and projections for various stakeholders, providing expert advice and analysis. Payroll Management: Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for over 480 employees, along with all related submissions. Fundraising Support: Oversee community and corporate fundraising activities to maximise income and meet KPIs. Resource Optimisation: Ensure financial resources are used effectively to achieve maximum impact, including business systems, insurance, and contract management. Asset & Treasury Management: Be responsible for the organisation's financial asset and treasury management, optimising income sources, and addressing shortfalls. Compliance & Governance: Lead on statutory accounts preparation, ensuring compliance with UK accounting standards, Charity Commission, and Companies House, and supporting strong charity governance. Company Secretary: Act as the organisation's Company Secretary, ensuring all statutory reporting requirements are met. Team Collaboration: Be an active and integral member of the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams. What You'll Bring: We're looking for a highly experienced and dedicated individual with: Essential Criteria: A degree or equivalent qualification. IT proficiency and knowledge of accounting systems (experience with MS Dynamics and Access Payroll is a plus). Strong understanding of financial management principles, accounting practices, and regulatory requirements (including employment legislation, GDPR, and Charity Law). Extensive written and verbal communication expertise. Proven team leadership and management experience. Experience managing a finance function in a large/complex organisation. Experience working with Boards/Trustees. Demonstrated resilience and determination. High level of integrity and dependability, with a strong sense of accountability and ownership. Desirable Criteria: Chartered Accountant (ACCA, ACA, or equivalent) with full membership of a professional body. Experience in project management and business planning. Prior experience within the Charity/Third sector. Familiarity with project assessment tools. Ability to speak Welsh. Benefits: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 28 days after three years of service, and 30 days after five years.
