A growing and well-established civil engineering contractor with a turnover of approximately £40m is seeking an experienced Freelance Site Agent to support the delivery of a major highways upgrade project. This is an excellent opportunity to join a reputable contractor with a strong pipeline of infrastructure work across highways and associated civils. The Role Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of key sections of the scheme, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The project will involve a broad range of civil engineering activities including: - Earthworks - Drainage installation - RC structures and associated civils - Kerbing and paving - Road construction and surfacing preparation - Utilities coordination - Traffic management interfaces Key Responsibilities - Managing site operations and subcontractors - Ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance - Coordinating labour, plant, and materials - Driving programme and productivity on site - Liaising with engineers, clients, and stakeholders - Reviewing RAMS, permits, and temporary works - Maintaining quality assurance and site documentation - Supporting commercial and programme reporting Requirements - Proven experience as a Site Agent on highways or major civils projects - Strong background in earthworks, drainage, structures, and paving - Excellent understanding of NEC contracts and site procedures - SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid certifications - Ability to lead teams and manage subcontractors effectively - Strong communication and organisational skills
