Role Overview
As a Technical Purchaser, you will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement of metals and engineering materials, tools, and services essential to our manufacturing operations. You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of high-specification materials while maintaining strong supplier relationships and ensuring compliance with technical and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Source and procure raw materials, primarily metals (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, titanium), tools, and subcontracted services.
* Interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure accurate material selection and supplier alignment.
* Evaluate and negotiate with suppliers on pricing, lead times, and quality assurance.
* Monitor inventory levels and forecast material requirements in collaboration with production planning.
* Maintain and update procurement records, supplier databases, and purchase orders.
* Ensure compliance with industry standards, company policies, and quality requirements.
* Develop and maintain strong relationships suppliers.
* Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Resolve supply chain issues, including delays, non-conformance, and quality discrepancies.
* Oversee stores operations, ensuring efficient stock control and accurate inventory management.
* Ensure the MRP system is consistently updated and aligned with production needs.
Requirements
* Proven experience in a technical purchasing or procurement role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
* Strong understanding of metals and materials used in precision engineering.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
* Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
* Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
* Knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality standards.
