Job Summary
Applications are invited for one full‑time Clinical Fellow (ST3+ doctor) in Urology.
The Department of Urology consists of Consultants, Specialty Trainees/Clinical Fellows ranging from ST3 to ST8, and junior level trainees. It is a busy clinical environment with a large volume of elective and emergency surgery and scope for personal development. A number of our current trust grade registrars are completing their FRCS examinations.
Swindon is a major town set within the rural beauty of Wiltshire, nestled between the Cotswolds to the North and the Marlborough Downs to the South. Travel to major cities such as Bristol, Oxford and London is easy with frequent rail links; the M4 motorway is within a few miles. Local accommodation is affordable and numerous shopping, social and sports facilities are easily accessible.
Main Duties of the Job
The successful candidate will work within the Urology team. They will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of their team's in‑patients, perform the duties of the on‑call Urology registrar, attend theatre and out‑patients. If appointed you will be one of three Urology registrars who all participate in the on‑call rota. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in the training of junior staff and medical students attached to the Urology Department.

Job Description
Job Responsibilities
The Urology department has a long history of urological rotations, with an emphasis on training within the environment of a busy, large District General Hospital. The successful candidate will provide on‑call cover for the team on a 1 in 3 rolling rota, and ward cover for the team's in‑patients.
Potential opportunities for hands‑on training in the operating theatre and study leave to attend examinations and courses are available.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or GMC registerable medical qualification.
* Registration with the GMC and license to practice.
* Successful completion of MRCS or equivalent.
* Evidence of training progression.
Clinical Experience
* Completed F1 and F2 years (or equivalent outside the UK).
* Completed CT/ST1/2 in General Surgery.
* Recent experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems & practices (or equivalent).
* At least 24 months experience in surgery of which at least 6 months has been in General Surgery.
* Evidence of good progression in chosen career.
Knowledge
* Evidence of understanding and application of knowledge in the speciality.
* Willingness to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate.
Clinical Skills
* Competent in history taking and examination skills (including basic life support and resuscitation skills).
* Accepts responsibility and able to take a leadership role.
Teaching & Research
* Demonstrated interest in research.
* Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Able to contribute to departmental teaching sessions.
Personal Attributes
* Effective communication with patients and their relatives.
* Good working relationships with all multidisciplinary team members.
* Good oral & written presentation skills.
* Able to function successfully under pressure.
* Good organisational and time‑management skills.
Practical Requirements
* Ability to fulfil all duties of the post, including out‑of‑hours commitments.
* Fluent in English.
* Prepared to be flexible in working patterns.
* Willingness to become computer literate.
