Membership Support Assistant

Home-based (UK)

About Us

We’re Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives after their sight has been affected. Founded in 1915, by Sir Arthur Pearson, to help the many veterans losing their sight after the First World War, we have over a century of experience providing the best care to our veterans.

Since then, we’ve provided support to tens of thousands of vision-impaired veterans, helping them to regain their independence. By providing our members with the tools and skills they need to lead a fulfilling and active life, we ensure they remain valued members of society.

We’re one transformational team that believes every vision-impaired veteran should be able to lead the life they choose.

We are now looking for a Membership Support Assistant to join us on a fixed term 12 month contract, working 35 hours per week.

The Benefits

- Salary of £24,628 per annum

- Generous annual leave with the option to buy additional days

- Pension scheme with generous employer contributions

- Access to legal services and mental health support

- Employee assistance programme

- Paid professional subscriptions and discounts

- Home working allowance

- Professional and personal development

This is a rewarding opportunity for a compassionate customer service professional with experience supporting people with physical disabilities to join our dedicated and values-led organisation.

You’ll play a vital role in transforming lives by guiding vision-impaired veterans through their first steps into our care, providing the reassurance, information, and support they need to feel confident and empowered.

With opportunities to build meaningful relationships, grow your experience in healthcare administration, and be part of a supportive, mission-driven team, you’ll help ensure that no veteran has to face sight loss alone.

The Role

As a Membership Support Assistant, you will deliver a high-quality first point of contact for new applicants for membership to Blind Veterans UK.

Ensuring a smooth and supportive admissions experience, you’ll coordinate the entire admissions process, including responding to enquiries from applicants and third-parties, distributing application packs, managing data entry, and verifying eligibility.

You’ll work with a large degree of autonomy, providing an excellent customer experience throughout the process, organising and supporting clinics and consultants and ensuring applicants feel welcomed and informed.

Additionally, you will:

- Support background checks for eligibility

- Maintain regular contact with potential members

- Offer guidance on the admissions process

- Liaise with partner organisations to ensure accurate advice is given

- Provide diary management for clinics and maintain records

About You

To be considered as a Membership Support Assistant, you will need:

- Experience managing the needs of people with a variety of physical disabilities

- Experience in a customer service/care environment

- The ability to prioritise conflicting objectives

- Good interpersonal and organisational skills

- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Please note, you must be prepared to travel and be away from home overnight when necessary.

The closing date for this role is 7th July 2025. However, please note that we are interviewing as we go and may close applications early if we appoint a successful candidate.

Other organisations may call this role Membership Admissions Co-ordinator, Customer Support Assistant, Admissions Administrator, Customer Care Administrator, Customer Service Co-ordinator, Member Support Administrator, or Admissions Assistant.

Blind Veterans UK are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment. Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business, and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.
