Role Overview
We are seeking to recruit a Pharmacy Technician to join our multidisciplinary Primary Care Network (PCN) team, working closely with clinical pharmacists to support high‑quality patient care. This full‑time, 11‑month fixed‑term (maternity cover) position, based at Southport & Formby Health, also considers part‑time applications.
Main Duties
* Support clinical pharmacists by undertaking clinical reviews of patient records and identifying or flagging areas of concern.
* Counsel patients, review and accurately record medications, and participate in audits, with a focus on patients on high‑risk drugs.
* Provide patient‑facing and patient‑supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision‑making conversations.
* Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including administration, medication reviews and reconciliation.
* Assist Clinical Pharmacist in preparing for Structured Medication Reviews.
* Provide expertise on public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice and addressing local health inequalities.
* Manage shared care protocols and liaise with Clinical Pharmacists for complex patients.
* Support the PCN multi‑disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation processes.
* Develop relationships across pharmacy and other health teams to support integration.
* Support implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices and other settings.
* Assist the PCN to deliver on QIPP, LQC, QOF and other locally commissioned services.
* Review and develop practice policies for CQC requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
* Mandatory registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Meeting GPhC criteria to register as a Pharmacy Technician.
* Experience as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy.
* In‑depth therapeutic and clinical knowledge and evidence‑based healthcare principles.
* Understanding of primary care prescribing, rational prescribing and improvement strategies.
* Excellent interpersonal, influencing, negotiating, written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information understandably.
* Analytical skills to obtain and analyse complex technical information.
* Problem‑solving with the ability to refer to seniors or GPs when appropriate.
* Work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Ability to influence and motivate audiences to comply with recommendations.
* Independent and team‑oriented work style with accountability for professional expertise.
* Commitment to continuous professional development.
* Willingness to develop through the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCFEP) while in employment.
