An unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist with a passion for working with older adults to support the inpatient mental health service based at NewHaven, The Princess of Wales Community Hospital.

Previous experience in mental health is desirable, however is not essential as the post holder would receive peer clinical supervision with an emphasis on supporting mental health patients.

Main duties of the job
The role includes requires you to:
undertake physiotherapy assessments and treatmentof patients who have been admitted to hospital due to their mental health needs,including dementia.
use health promotion, interpersonal skills andphysical activity to promote physical wellbeing and to reduce risk of physical deterioration.
work flexibly and with the multidisciplinaryteam, to plan, deliver and evaluate patient's progress
maintain clinical record keeping and use TrustIT systems.
use 1:1 exercise intervention, group activity, andsupport patients with accessing the community
support the Occupational Therapy Team with communityassessments.
Improve the provision of physical activitythrough service development and quality assurance
educate health care professionals, physiotherapystudents, carers in physiotherapeutic management. This includes contribution toCPD of the MDT
provide physiotherapyassessment to the Older Adult Hospital at Home Service

Job description
Job responsibilities
The post holder will :
3. work autonomously, with a caseload of patients across theinpatient wards based at NewHaven
4. take a lead in the physiotherapy assessmentof patients, develop individualised treatment plans using clinical reasoning
5. communicate effectively with patients andcarers to maximise rehabilitation potential.
6. assess mental capacity for physiotherapyinterventions provided and work within a legal framework with patients who lackthe capacity to consent to treatment.
7. demonstrate understanding of clinicalgovernance and risk management and apply this to working with patients who mayhave high levels of risk associated with their mental health presentation.
8. support Physiotherapy students on clinical placement.
9. undertake Manual Handling Assessor training, to support the delivery ofmandatory training for clinical staff and to provide support to carers.
10. undertake training in Safety Intervention.
11. Maintain CPD, clinical supervision will be provided via a peer supportframework.
