Bedford Interventional Radiology are looking for Band 6 Nurses to care for patients undergoing IR procedures, working up to co-ordinating our small team during shifts (4 days a week- see post details)
Successful applicants will have excellent patient assessment and patient observation skills and be keen to develop into a team leader when enough experience is gained
Applicants must have experience in an acute hospital setting, Experience of radiology or theatre Nursing is preferred but not essential as training can be provided
Main duties of the job
Assess patients for interventional radiology procedures using pre assessment criteria, provide patients with information about heir procedure
Care for patients undergoing procedures, actively supporting them, monitoring observations, administering medications, insert and remove cannula, monitor CBG
Care for patients & monitor them post procedure, recovering them, transferring to recovery/wards
Assist with the preparation of sterile fields and specialist equipment, Scrub Nursing, circulating nurse during procedures
To wear PPE (lead aprons) during fluoroscopy cases
To safely administer sedation after receiving sedation training
To liaise with Radiologists about procedures, make bookings, liaise with bed managers, specialist Nurses and wider team to facilitate smooth procedures
Act as a practice assessor for Nursing students, support students from the MDT, co-ordinate student placements
To work independently to organise, co-ordinate and prioritise own daily workload, to act as Nurse in charge for shifts once experienced

1. Assist with the organisation, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for patients undergoing procedures within the Imaging department (e.g. liver biopsies, lung biopsies, and nephrostomies) this includes caring for terminally ill, disabled, elderly and confused patients
2. Oversee the safety and comfort of patients before, during, and after procedures, Nurse led discharge of patients if stable.
3. To work independently to organise, co-ordinate and prioritise own daily workload
4. Communicate effectively and sensitively verbally, face to face and by telephone with a wide range of clinical technical and administrative staff across the Trust, patients, relatives/Carers and visitors to the department. This will include patients whose first language may not be English.
5. Assist the Radiologist in diagnostic procedures according to their professional training and departmental protocols
6. To arrange imaging appointments as required, liaising with wards, radiographers, theatres, staff and patients, dispensing any necessary preparation and instructions
