Behaviour Support Assistant – SEMH School
Pay: £90 – £110 per day (depending on experience)
Contract: Full-time, long-term (term-time only)
Setting: SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) School
Hours: 08.30am-15.30pm - Monday to Friday
Start Date: November 2025
About the Role
Education Network are currently recruiting for a passionate and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to work in a specialist SEMH school in North Tyneside. The school provides a supportive and nurturing environment for children and young people who experience social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential. This is a long-term role with the potential to become permanent for the right person.
Key Responsibilities
* Support pupils with SEMH needs both in and outside the classroom
* Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive and restorative approaches
* Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and personal growth
* Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
* Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and independence
Requirements
* Experience working with young people with SEMH or additional needs (school, residential, or youth work background welcome)
* Calm, empathetic, and patient approach to behaviour management
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one)
