We have an exciting opportunity for a Head Biomedical Scientist to join our Blood Sciences department at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. The postholder will lead a team working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Wycombe Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Head Biomedical Scientist to join our Blood Sciences team.
The Head BMS in Blood Sciences will take the management lead in all clinical work-related issues and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Blood Sciences department, which includes Biochemistry & Immunology and Haematology & Blood Transfusion laboratories.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining and developing a high-quality service and will be supported to display personal initiative. They will lead a team of senior staff to deliver an efficient medical laboratory service focused on patient care and resource management within the hospital.

* Knowledge of safety regulations related to pathology laboratories and categorisation of biological agents.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Training ability for all grades of BMS and MLA staff.
* Knowledge of pathology IT systems for data extraction.
* Experience managing audit processes.
* Extensive knowledge of blood sciences laboratory operations and sample reception management.
* Understanding of Pathology Networks and government drivers for reconfiguration.
* Senior-level laboratory bench work experience.
* Experience with on-call duties and rota management.
* Record keeping and report writing experience.
* Leadership and team management experience.
* Experience in staff appraisals and policy writing.
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

* Experience managing Managed Service Contracts and budgets in Blood Sciences.

Experience
* Comprehensive experience in pathology disciplines.
* Post-registration experience in diagnostic pathology laboratories.
* Expertise in complex laboratory methodologies.
Education, Qualifications & Training
* Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science.
* Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council.
* Senior management experience at Band 8a level.
* Management/Leadership training or qualifications.
* CPD and postgraduate training in relevant areas.
* Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent.
* MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
* Registration on CPD scheme.
* Quality management training.
Special Circumstances
* Full driving license and car ownership for site travel.
