This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and forward-thinking Acute Medicine Consultant to join a well-established and expanding Acute Medicine team in the East Midlands. The successful candidate will have at least 1 year of NHS experience and will play a central role in delivering high-quality acute medical care across the Emergency Admission Unit (EAU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), and Short Stay Unit (SSU).
Working collaboratively within the Division of Urgent & Emergency Care, the appointee will contribute to service transformation, clinical governance, and education while maintaining excellence in patient-centred care.
Main Duties of the Role
Clinical Responsibilities
* Lead post-take ward rounds across EAU and SSU.
* Provide consultant-led ward rounds and multidisciplinary board rounds.
* Deliver consultant presence within SDEC, supporting ambulatory emergency care pathways.
* Provide direct input into the Emergency Department, supporting front-door medical decision-making.
* Participate in the General Internal Medicine (GIM) rota and Acute Medicine on-call commitments, including weekend consultant cover.
* Provide timely advice and clinical support to GPs and other specialities.
* Maintain continuous responsibility for patients under their care, ensuring safe, effective and efficient management.
* Ensure compliance with safeguarding responsibilities for children and vulnerable adults.
* Work closely with ED, speciality teams, frailty services, therapy teams and discharge teams to optimise patient flow and outcomes.
Service Development & Governance
* Contribute actively to the development and improvement of Acute Medicine services.
* Participate in strategic planning alongside the Head of Service and Clinical leadership.
* Engage in clinical governance activities, including audit, morbidity and mortality review, and quality improvement projects.
* Implement audit findings and research evidence into clinical practice.
* Support performance management requirements, including coding, documentation standards and data quality.
Teaching & Supervision
* Provide clinical and educational supervision to IMT doctors, Speciality Registrars, Clinical Development Fellows and Foundation Doctors.
* Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
* Contribute to CPD activities and educational development within the department.
Management & Leadership
* Actively participate in divisional and departmental meetings.
* Contribute to protocol development and clinical pathway redesign.
* Support workforce development, including mentoring trainees and ACPs.
* Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Professional Responsibilities
* Maintain GMC registration and comply with revalidation requirements.
* Participate in annual appraisal and job planning review.
* Adhere to infection prevention, data protection, and Trust governance policies.

Person Specification – Key Requirements
Essential:
* Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
* MRCP (or equivalent)
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT)
* Demonstrable experience in Acute or General Medicine
* Minimum 1 year NHS experience
* Strong leadership, communication, and multidisciplinary team-working skills
* Evidence of participation in audit and clinical governance
