Driver - HGV (7.5 Tonne) / Warehouse Operative. Scope Of Role
Working within a warehouse team, under the guidance and direction of the Warehouse Operations and Senior Managers, to achieve the daily requirements and targets of a busy warehouse operation. Our warehouse operatives are multiskilled and expected to work across all areas of the warehouse and, as a Driver you would be part of that team. Whilst you will be required to drive between our warehouses and Head Office in Peterborough there will also be a requirement to drive to our stores across the UK from time to time, which may include overnight stays. When not needed to drive then you will support the warehouse team within Goods In and Despatch and also on the core elements of picking and packing. Reporting to the Senior Manager, you will achieve daily and weekly set targets in all given tasks in a safe, efficient and timely manner whilst adhering to our standards of conduct and quality at all times.
Key Responsibilities
* Adhere to health & safety instructions and requirements to ensure safety for yourself and colleagues; promptly report any accidents, incidents and near misses
* Maintain safe driving standards at all times both on public highways and onsite
* Understand and utilise the warehouse management system (handheld scanners and computers) to carry out tasks and maintain stock management and order accuracy
* Raise issues, concerns and opportunities for improvement through appropriate channels to enable quick resolution
* Take care of equipment, goods and information and maintain clean, hygienic working environments
Functions Of Role
* Driving: transport stock, waste and company assets between sites; drive safely, keep vehicles clean
* Loading and unloading goods; report missing or misplaced items
* Interacting politely with team members and suppliers
Operational Areas
* Picking: gather goods for orders, follow a pre-determined pick path and scan items
* Packing: check items, package for dispatch, use correct packaging and inserts
* Side Packing: process returns, repackage for resale, label checking and stock allocation
* Putaway: move goods to picking locations, scan and verify locations, place items on shelves and racking
Other Warehouse Functions
* Goods In, Customer refunds, preparing stock for new store openings, PI functions and coordinating equipment and people as needed; training may be provided for multiskilling
Skills And Qualifications
* Attention to detail
* Ability to communicate achievements and concerns with Managers
* Ability to work with colleagues; recognise English may not be first language for some
* Ability to meet the pace and physical demands of a busy warehouse role
* Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage
Key Attributes
* Experience in driving or warehouse roles
* Category C Driving Licence with a maximum of 3 penalty points
* Positive attitude; hardworking and able to use own initiative
* Proven ability to work well under pressure
* Ability to follow given instructions; proven attendance and flexibility
* Great time management; able to work alone or in a team
