Great British Energy is looking for two Transaction Leads to join our Local Power Plan team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end transaction execution for local and community energy opportunities, including direct investments (equity, quasi-equity, loans) and investments via third parties (e.g., community energy groups, local authority vehicles, developers, funds or aggregators)
* Originate and screen opportunities in partnership with GBE local customer team; shape propositions that balance pace, risk, and community benefit
* Structure transactions, including governance, security, cashflow waterfalls, covenants, consents, and social value requirements; ensure alignment with subsidy control, state aid legacy considerations (where relevant), procurement, and public sector approvals
* Lead commercial negotiations with counterparties and support drafting of term sheets, heads of terms, shareholder/loan agreements, development services agreements, and associated side letters
* Coordinate multi-disciplinary due diligence (commercial, financial, legal, technical, ESG) with internal teams and external advisors; identify key risks and agree mitigations and conditions precedent
* Build and maintain an investment pipeline and execution plan; manage transaction timetables, workstreams, and decision gates through to close and handover to asset management/delivery
* Prepare clear, evidence-based papers for internal governance (including Investment Committee), recommending deal structures and terms and evidencing alignment with GBE strategic objectives
* Support development of repeatable products and templates (e.g., standard terms, community benefit principles, investment criteria) to enable scalable deployment across local areas
* Act as a trusted partner to local authorities and communities, helping translate complex commercial concepts into practical options and supporting capacity-building where needed
Qualifications and Experience
* Strong track record of executing transactions in energy, infrastructure, project finance or corporate finance, including leading negotiations and coordinating advisers through to financial close
* Experience structuring investments across equity and debt instruments (or equivalent), with a practical understanding of risk allocation, security packages, covenants, conditions precedent and closing mechanics
* Ability to work effectively with local authorities, community organisations and SMEs, adapting communication and deal processes to diverse counterparties while maintaining commercial rigour
* Strong analytical capability, including reviewing and challenging financial models and key commercial assumptions; able to distil complex issues into clear recommendations for governance forums
* Working knowledge of UK power markets and local energy project fundamentals (e.g., solar PV, onshore wind, heat networks, flexibility, storage, EV infrastructure), including typical revenue models and delivery risks
* Demonstrated commitment to ESG and public value outcomes, including social value, community benefit, affordability and just transition considerations
* Experience with local authority finance, community energy models, or place-based investment vehicles (e.g., joint ventures, portfolio/SPV platforms, fund structures)
* Understanding of subsidy control/procurement considerations in a public sector context and experience working within (or alongside) formal governance and assurance processes
* Experience building repeatable transaction products, templates or playbooks to scale deployment across multiple sites/counterparties
Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g., finance, economics, engineering, law)
