Research is a rewarding and patient-centred career!
The research conducted at UHS focuses on a holistic approach to patient care and significantly contributes to the future progress of healthcare for all.
We make a difference in individual care and experience within UHS. We strive to ensure research is considered as a treatment option for all eligible patients, working closely with clinical teams and within patients' pathways to expand research opportunities and our research teams.
University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering various learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.
Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton provides an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs, and Jurassic Coast nearby.
We believe in using technology wisely, demonstrating strong time management and a commitment to innovation. Personalizing your application to highlight your skills and experiences is crucial. Over-reliance on generic, AI-generated content may lead to rejection if multiple candidates submit similar information.
At UHS, we’re committed to a flexible working environment to support work-life balance, whether you're balancing family, study, or wellbeing.
We champion individuality and strive to create an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds to join our diverse healthcare community.
Approximately 300 Research Nurses, AHPs, Midwives, and Clinical Trials Assistants work across the Trust, bringing exciting research opportunities to benefit our patients and the future of healthcare.
The Respiratory research nursing teams engage with patients and volunteers in studies on asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and lung diseases, focusing on patient wellbeing, safety, and data accuracy.
The Clinical Research Facility includes adult and paediatric ward beds, consulting rooms, a physiology lab, a temperature-humidity-controlled room, and a bronchoscopy suite. While most patients are from the Wessex region, it is also a national centre for advanced therapy medication.
The CRF is award-winning, with staff recognized nationally and internationally. Supported by an education team and linked to the University of Southampton, there are ample opportunities for career development.
