Job Title: Estimator
Location: West Malling, Kent
The Opportunity
A leading UK residential developer is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its Commercial team based in West Malling. This is a key role responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting the delivery of high-quality housing developments across the region.
You’ll be working closely with land, technical, and commercial teams, playing a critical part in assessing project viability and ensuring cost-effective delivery from pre-construction through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates and budgets for residential developments
Assess drawings, specifications, and other documentation to produce accurate cost plans
Manage and update cost databases, benchmarks, and historical data
Obtain and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations
Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options within schemes
Support land appraisals and viability assessments
Work collaboratively with internal departments including Land, Technical, and Construction
Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and adjudications
Key Requirements
Proven experience as an Estimator within the housebuilding or residential construction sector
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations
Experience working on housing developments (traditional build, timber frame, or RC frame desirable)
Commercial awareness with strong analytical and numerical skills
Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office (Excel in particular)
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
Desirable
HNC/HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar
Experience working within a PLC housebuilder or large residential developer
