Graduate Network and Data Centre Engineer
We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Network Engineer (Apprentice) to join our Network and Data Centre team within Technology. This field‑based role offers the opportunity to develop practical, hands‑on skills in network engineering and data centre operations. You’ll be supported to complete a Level 4 Network Engineer Apprenticeship, while developing practical skills and knowledge to advance your career.
The role will involve supporting the management, maintenance, and enhancement of Aldermore Group’s network and data centre infrastructure. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers to ensure our infrastructure remains secure, reliable, and high‑performing across multiple sites. As a Graduate Network Engineer, you’ll gain hands‑on experience supporting Aldermore Group’s network and data centre infrastructure while completing a Level 4 Network Engineer Apprenticeship.
Note: this is a field‑based role which requires out‑of‑hours support covering evenings and weekends when required.
Responsibilities
* Support the daily operations of network and data centre environments, ensuring availability and performance.
* Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls.
* Carry out routine checks on servers, cabling, and data centre equipment to maintain operational standards.
* Support troubleshooting and resolution of network and infrastructure issues under supervision.
* Maintain accurate documentation, inventories, and standard operating procedures audit‑ready.
* Assist with hardware replacements, patching, and planned maintenance activities.
* Support incident and change management processes, including root cause analysis and reporting.
* Travel to Harlow, Slough, London, and Reading to provide on‑site technical support.
* Learn network fundamentals, cybersecurity practices, and compliance standards relevant to financial services.
* Collaborate with colleagues and third‑party suppliers to support infrastructure projects and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
* Strong interest in developing a career in network engineering and data centre operations.
* Basic understanding of network concepts including LAN/WAN, IP addressing, routing, switching, and firewalls.
* Awareness of data centre environments, physical infrastructure, and equipment handling.
* Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
* Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
* Willingness to travel between sites and hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
* GCSE Maths and English grade 4‑9 or A‑C – essential.
* A level, BTEC or equivalent in IT subject.
* STEM‑related degree – desirable.
