 
        
        Job Summary
The Imaging Physics & Radiation Protection group within Christie Medical Physics & Engineering is seeking a Clinical Scientist to join our growing team of ~30 scientists, technologists and administrators. The role involves delivering scientific support to NHS and independent sector clinical radiology departments in the North West of England. Essential skills include strong communication, proactive teamwork, and a clean UK driving licence as frequent travel is required.
Key Responsibilities
 * Provide expert radiation protection advice to diagnostic, interventional, cardiac and dental imaging departments, including advice on facility design, personal dosimetry and local rules.
 * Perform performance and safety assessment of X‑ray equipment, including patient dosimetry, optimisation of dose and image quality, equipment calibration and quality control.
 * Teach small groups and present to large audiences on topics such as radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics.
 * Give scientific advice to radiology departments on local quality control measurements and review departmental QC results.
 * Lead or support specialist service development projects (e.g., patient dosimetry, optimisation, digital imaging, CT, mammography, bone densitometry).
 * Conduct research and development work aimed at improving services, and present research findings at appropriate meetings.
 * Plan and manage workload, prioritise tasks, and contribute to the Group’s Quality Management System.
Qualifications and Experience
 * Honours or MSc degree in a relevant physical science or Medical Physics.
 * DipIPEM or equivalent STP competence.
 * Registered with HCPC as a Clinical Scientist (or eligibility for registration).
 * Experience in diagnostic radiology physics, including dosimetry, optimisation and equipment calibration.
 * Experience in radiation protection under IRR17 and other relevant regulations.
 * Teaching or training experience, especially in FRCR or radiation protection courses.
 * Knowledge of X‑ray equipment and quality control procedures.
Skills
 * Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
 * Clear, articulate communication and strong interpersonal skills.
 * Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
 * Attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem‑solving and resilience.
Other Requirements
 * Valid UK car driving licence.
 * Physical ability to lift up to 15 kg.
 * Willingness to work flexibly in line with service needs.

Position: Clinical Scientist, CMPE Diagnostic Radiology Physics Service – Manchester, M20 4BX Contract: Permanent, Full-time Band: 7; Salary: £47,810 to £54,710 per annum (pro‑rata)
