We are looking for individuals with experience and an interest in technical and physical work to form part of our team of Casual Technical Assistants, supporting Project Tullie, our major capital development programme.
Our next phase will reveal more than 100,000 collection items for the first time as part of our new Active Gallery and will deliver a transformational visitor experience for Tullie, as well as creating a new Learning Studio to service our oversubscribed education programme.
Under the direction of the Project Tullie Technical Manager, you will assist with the decanting, transport and storing of materials and collection items, as well as providing additional technical support across the project as required.
This role is made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Purpose of the Role
As part of our team of Casual Technical Assistants, you will:
1. Work closely with the Technical Manager in the decanting of materials and collection items from museum areas to storage areas.
2. Ensure all items to be decanted are correctly packed and registered to ensure good collections and object management.
3. Support the team to transport items to and from on/off-site storage facilities for decant/recant purposes.
4. Support the project team in recanting all materials and collection items from internal/external storage areas once construction work has been completed.
5. Ensure materials and equipment are removed or disposed of via the agreed exit path.
6. Use mechanical equipment to support the movement of objects or the construction of supporting materials.
7. Liaise with the Technical Manager to ensure clear communication of task requirements, help to ensure support is available as required and work collaboratively with team members.
This role offers the opportunity to be part of a transformational moment in Tullie’s history – shaping a major museum redevelopment for Carlisle and Cumbria.
