Overview
You will be responsible for helping create the right environment for multidisciplinary teams to succeed, helping them to self-organise whilst creating a culture of learning and transparency. Providing the solution to customer business requirement, mapping at an enterprise level, leading a technical workstream to successfully implement programme/project requirements & deliverables. Helping to define and govern technical standards and principles, guide technology roadmaps, and manage technical dependencies across various value streams. As a Solution Architect your responsibilities would be expected to include:
Responsibilities
* Develop Solution Architecture designs aligned with industry standards such as TOGAF including proposals, HLD, LLDs and other design artefacts as required
* Produce publication‑quality HLD/LLD, sequence/flow diagrams, threat models, runbooks, and compliance dossiers; curate project wikis (Azure DevOps/SharePoint) as single source of truth
* Contribute to the development of IT strategies and roadmaps for the Enterprise
* Review and audit existing designs, propose improvements and transformations as required
* Help align with and shape Enterprise Architect approaches and associated frameworks
* Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to elicit requirements, understanding business objectives, business need and the business benefits of IT solutions to a wide variety of levels of audience from junior to senior in both technical and business roles
* Participate in development of the architecture community within the UK, including company events, industry events, mentoring, and training
* Understand, explain and present complex technical problems at all levels of customer organisations
* Work in multiple supplier environments and engage and maintain relationships at peer level across customers and other suppliers
* Analyse and explain the risks involved in adopting certain technology solutions
* Identify and investigate opportunities for driving value and prepare the necessary technical advice and guidance notes
* Analyse the solutions environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend improvements
* Work closely with Lead Consultant, Project Managers, Enterprise Architects to ensure that technical and project governance and reviews are conducted; best practice lifecycles are followed ensuring consistent delivery of the project or service
* Support the production of proposals, bid material and other required artefacts to support winning new business
Experience
* Experience as a Solution Architect or similar role in large-scale, high-security environments, preferably within Defence or government sectors
* Strong track record in designing and delivering secure, complex IT and digital systems
* Proficiency in cloud architectures, cybersecurity, software development methodologies, and system integration
* Experience in working on digital projects which have included cross functional teams such as Designers, Researchers, UX, Product Owners & Developers; strong understanding of Agile methodologies and Scrum practices
* Understanding of on-premise and deployable technologies
* Familiarity with defence-specific frameworks, such as MODAF or NAF, is an advantage
* Experience in implementation of an enterprise level architecture in a large and complex multi-supplier / multi-platform environment
* Experience designing and implementing secure systems to meet Government Security Classification and NCSC standards
* Azure & ADO (Repos, Pipelines, Wiki), API Management, Functions, Key Vault/HSM, Storage, Event Grid; identity patterns (AAD/AAD B2C)
