An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced medical secretary to join the team within Clinical Chemistry at LUHFT. The successful candidate must be able to undertake all administrative duties including diary management, be well organised, plan own workload and work on own initiative working to strict guidelines, both individually and as part of the wider team. You will be expected to be a team player and cover for your colleagues during absences.
Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive secretarial service to consultants and speciality teams including transcription (audio typing) of letters and arranging appropriate follow up.
* Manage creation, reduction and cancellation of clinic templates for clinicians.
* Liaise with service users (patients, GPs, other Trusts) via telephone and email; relay messages to clinicians and respond to queries promptly.
* Manage and maintain 18 week pathways including tertiary referrals to external trusts; ensure accurate recording on PAS and track referrals to ensure timely review and follow-up appointments in conjunction with the RTT pathway.
* Provide other general administrative duties relevant to the role as listed in the job description.

Qualifications
* Essential: Educated to GCSE/O Level standard/equivalent or higher
* Essential: RSA/OCR Typing/Word processing Level 3 or equivalent
* Essential: RSA/OCR Audio typing Skills Level 3
* Essential: Knowledge of medical terminology
* Essential: Secretarial Qualification or equivalent experience
* Desirable: ECDL or equivalent
* Desirable: Shorthand
Experience
* Essential: Excellent IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
* Essential: Demonstrable experience in an NHS office environment as a medical secretary
