We are seeking an experienced clinical nurse specialist in viral hepatitis to join the Infectious Diseases service in Worcestershire.
This post comes at a particularly exciting time in the field of hepatitis, as NHS England has an ambition to reduce the levels of hepatitis B and hepatitis C transmission to improve public health outcomes. We have a well-developed and highly respected ID service within the Trust with 4 ID consultants, a hepatologist, ID registrar, HIV pharmacist and Hepatitis pharmacist, 3 HIV CNS and 2 health care assistants. We have cross-county clinics within the Acute Trust on 3 sites and foster close links with the community drug services and GPs. We run a very active in-reach prison service. We run a monthly MDT and are closely linked via a regional network to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. We also work in the community to support Hepatitis C patients with excellent collaboration with the drug and alcohol team.
Responsibilities
* Lead and facilitate nurse-led clinics.
* Work independently alongside medical staff.
* Assess all new viral hepatitis patients and carry out fibro-scanning procedures in selected patients.

* Provide and receive highly complex and sensitive information, maintaining high interpersonal and communication skills.
* Provide specialist advice and support to clients and staff.
* Act as the patient advocate, assessing suitability for treatment and working with the patient to achieve this goal.
* Liaise with other health care professionals to ensure a seamless service where appropriate.
* Provide comprehensive and accurate recordkeeping.

Effectively manage a highly complex clinical caseload, prioritizing needs and ensuring a quality service. Plan and implement care for patients undergoing assessment and treatment of viral hepatitis. Act as an independent and supplementary prescriber within own area of expertise. Work as a member of the multi-professional team at appropriate consultant clinics, providing specialist advice and support. The clinical nurse specialists in HIV and viral hepatitis work closely together and may collaborate with the HIV cohort.
To practice autonomously within nurse-led clinics delivering highly specialised care across acute, community and prison settings. This will include providing information regarding treatment and side effects, teaching injection techniques, monitoring treatment and side effect management, maintaining a support network, providing a phlebotomy service, and analysing highly complex blood results to assess complications of viral hepatitis and liaising with medical colleagues as appropriate.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* First level Registered Nurse.
* Graduate in health-related degree.
* Venepuncture and cannulation course.
* Working towards masters degree.
* Independent and Supplementary Nurse Prescribing Course (or working towards).
Experience
* Essential: Experience at band 6 and working autonomously; planning/delivery of teaching programmes.
* Desirable: Research undertaken; Audits undertaken; Membership of relevant professional group.
