Job Title: Mast Mechanical Design Lead

Salary: Up to £70,000 depending on skills and experience
Take on a dynamic role as a Mast Mechanical Design Lead at the forefront of real-world demands in the defence industry. Your responsibilities will include ensuring operational excellence for existing products, developing next-generation radar systems to counter emerging threats, and contributing to our technology strategy. Your daily work will be diverse and exciting, applying engineering principles across the entire development lifecycle to develop radar systems used by those who serve and protect us.
What you’ll be doing:
1. Provide expert knowledge gained through substantial experience to apply principles of systems engineering, ISO 15288, and your specialist mechanical engineering expertise to develop or resolve complex shipborne structures with integrated sensor configurations.
2. Provide technical and business leadership, potentially leading multiple engineering teams, including management and cost control.
3. Analyze, define, evaluate, plan, and deliver solutions meeting programme, business, and customer requirements.
4. Interface with customers, suppliers, and other functions, acting as an engineering ambassador.
5. Assist in developing engineering capabilities and monitor the professional development of engineers for future discipline requirements.
Your skills and experience:
1. Subject matter expertise in Mechanical Engineering: Structures and Finite Element Analysis (particularly Static and Dynamic Shock and Vibration) or equivalent experience.
2. Ability to generate requirements and translate concepts into production-ready designs.
3. Relevant experience/knowledge of CAD and Mechanical Engineering Analysis, Modelling, and Simulation tools.
4. Experience leading large-scale complex system designs.
5. Experience with various engineering lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile).
6. Higher education (or equivalent experience) in a relevant STEM discipline.
7. Achieved Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.

The Integrated Mast Mechanical Design Lead is a subject matter expert responsible for the conceptual development of future shipborne mast structures housing radars, sensors, communications, and ship services.
