Litigation Caseworker – Appeals, Litigation and Administrative Review
Working with supportive colleagues at the Home Office, you’ll contribute to national immigration policy – helping to keep UK citizens safe and secure.
This role offers the opportunity to handle interesting and challenging cases. It’s hands-on, purposeful work that provides room for growth. You’ll be responsible for responding to pre-action protocol letters, drafting clear replies explaining the Home Office's stance, and consulting decision-makers when necessary. If a case proceeds to judicial review, you'll collaborate with colleagues to give clear instructions to government lawyers. You will manage the entire judicial review process, gaining experience in litigation, case preparation, and court proceedings.
With this responsibility, you’ll gain valuable experience in public service and immigration law, and have opportunities to expand your expertise. Supported by colleagues, you’ll develop key skills such as assessing which decisions to defend or reconsider, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and to standard.
Training and development
Upon joining, you’ll participate in a comprehensive foundation programme lasting approximately 12 weeks. This provides a solid understanding of immigration law and tribunal procedures. Additionally, a mentor will support you, and you’ll receive ongoing training to enhance your review, preparation, and presentation skills in Immigration Appeals.
What we are looking for
You don’t need a law degree, but you should have at least a 2:2 degree and a strong interest in immigration law. Resilient and highly organized, you can work effectively in a fast-changing, time-sensitive environment. You should be capable of analyzing complex legal arguments and communicating effectively with external stakeholders.
