Clerk Typist, Specialist Surgical Care
Band 2 – 18 hours per week
Location: West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven

This role provides essential administrative support to the Specialist Surgical Collaborative across various clinical settings in Cumbria. It requires a professional type/clerical support role, working mainly for Consultants, Specialist Doctors, and Nurse Practitioners.
Main duties of the job
* First point of contact for patients; maintain a professional, patient‑focused approach.
* Provide high‑standard administration support to the clinical team, liaising with other departments, patients, NHS Trusts and external agencies.
* Produce professional letters/documents at a minimum average typing speed of 50‑60 words per minute.
* Maintain accurate records, manage confidential information and handle an efficient busy workload.
Requirements
Education and qualifications:
* GCSE (minimum C grade) or equivalent.
* RSA Level 2 or NVQ Level 2 in Administration / Word Processing.
Skills and experience:
* Typing speed of 50‑60 wpm, regular production of professional documents.
* Experience in a similar role, preferably in an administration background.
* Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, IT systems).
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and team working skills.
* Adaptability, calm under pressure and ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
Knowledge and Understanding
* Confidentiality procedures.
* E‑quality issues.
* Medical terminology.
* Microsoft Office and other clerical software.
Other requirements
* Flexible approach to working patterns.
* Willingness to undertake training and development.
