We are working in partnership with a leading engineering manufacturer in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Buyer on a contract basis through to the end of September. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the delivery of high-integrity, safety-critical programmes within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
The Role
As Buyer, you will play a key role in supporting engineering and production teams by ensuring the timely procurement of materials, components, and services. Operating within a complex supply chain, you will help drive cost, quality, and delivery performance while maintaining compliance with defence and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities as a Buyer:
* Manage end-to-end procurement of components, materials, and services
* Raise and manage purchase orders in line with MRP/ERP demand signals
* Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery to production and project schedules
* Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Programme teams to support delivery
* Source new suppliers and support supplier selection and onboarding
* Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to achieve best value
* Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply chain issues proactively
* Ensure compliance with internal processes and defence procurement standards
* Support cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives
Key Requirements as a Buyer:
* Proven experience as a Buyer within engineering, manufacturing, or defence environments
* Strong understanding of technical procurement (e.g. machined parts, electronics, assemblies)
* Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, IFS or similar)
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills across engineering and operations teams
* Experience in expediting and managing suppliers in a project-based environment
* Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills
Desirable
* Experience within defence, aerospace, or other regulated industries
* Knowledge of export controls / compliance (e.g. ITAR, EAR)
