Icm senior clinical fellow (st4 - st7)

Bath
Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust
Posted: 29 October
Offer description

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a clinical fellow to join our Intensive Care team. The RUH ICU admits approximately 1,000 patients per year, 85% of whom are emergencies, including critically unwell children. The patient cohort is a 60% medical – 40% surgical split with a mean age of 61, an average length of stay of 2.7 days and a standardised mortality ratio of 0.93, meaning more of our patients survive compared to similar sized units. In December 2024 we will move to a brand-new ward, B36, with a 16-bed capacity and a mix of negative, neutral and positive pressure ventilated rooms.

Day shifts are staffed by 2 consultants and 3 resident doctors (2 SHO, 1 Middle Grade) 7 days a week. We offer multiple training opportunities throughout the week including radiology meetings, ICU follow up clinic, FUSIC club, monthly journal club, M&M and clinical governance sessions.

Fellowship Opportunities – Echocardiography and Leadership

* You will work on our senior resident rota.
* Educational development time will be rostered in line with the recommended hours provided to Severn Deanery trainees.
* You can use this time for your own learning on any subject of your choice.
* Our department has an established ICM echo fellowship well linked with our cardiology department. Echo fellows can learn FUSIC, EDEC or BSE level echo depending on the time they have available and their previous skills.
* You would be welcome to take an active part in echocardiography clinical governance and to attend echocardiography department meetings.
* You will have access to appropriate and high‑quality platforms to enable practice of echocardiography skills in the critical care environment (GE Vivid S70 and TOE probe; Echo reporting station on ICU).
* You will have the opportunity to support the FUSIC training offered in our department.
* Several consultants in our department hold senior management positions (Divisional Director for Surgery, Divisional Director for FASS, South West Critical Care Network Clinical Lead) and the opportunity for shadowing and leadership opportunities is also available.
