Acute Medicine is an essential pillar of urgent care at UHBW. We have ambitious plans to grow the service at Weston General Hospital with the expansion of our Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care Unit, and optimising clinical pathways. You will have a unique opportunity to lead and shape the future of the service. You will be joining an enthusiastic, collaborative multi-disciplinary team that is committed to driving forward the Trust vision for Acute Medicine. Our service includes a 28-bedded Acute Medical Unit (Sandford Ward), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit, Waterside 16-bedded General Medicine and the Medical Take in Emergency Department. We work closely with Emergency Department, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Surgical and Trauma & Orthopaedics teams, and with colleagues across Bristol hospitals. We welcome cross-site working arrangements.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and direction for the multi-professional team in the management of acute medical patients. Responsibilities include leading ward rounds, directing patient management, performing practical procedures, teaching junior medical and other staff, attending multidisciplinary meetings, contributing to governance within the department, managing the service, and liaising with professionals within and outside the Trust as required.

Acute Medicine Service Structure
* 28 inpatient bedded Acute Medical Unit on Sandford Ward. Clinical leadership is provided by two consultants based on the ward from 09:00–17:00 for ward rounds, admissions, and referrals.
* Same Day Emergency Unit operates 7 days a week (08:00–22:00). The Acute Medicine Consultant is present 09:00–17:00 on weekdays to facilitate rapid senior review and the team runs a HOT/Bring back clinic within SDEC.
* Waterside, 16-bedded General Medicine Ward with daily board rounds; ward rounds 2–3 times per week.
* Acute Medicine provides leadership of the Acute Medical Take with the Acute Medicine consultant leading from 09:00–17:00 on weekdays within the Emergency Department.
GIM On-Call element is on a 1:11 ratio, on-site from 17:00–19:00 after taking new admissions and non-resident until 08:00.
