Team Manager – Fostering
North East | £37 per hour | Hybrid Working (2 office days per week)
Are you an experienced Qualified Social Worker with a passion for fostering and leadership? We’re working with a proactive local authority in the North East who are seeking a Team Manager to lead their Fostering South Team on a 12-month interim basis. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a key leadership role, supporting the professional development of fostering social workers and ensuring high-quality, compliant service delivery for foster carers and looked-after children.
Due to the nature of this role, on-site presence is required for at least 2 days per week.
About the Role As Team Manager, you'll lead a team responsible for the regulatory compliance and ongoing support of mainstream foster carers in the South of the County. You’ll work closely with a Social Work Consultant (deputy manager) and senior leadership to ensure the fostering service meets statutory and inspection standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Leading a team of fostering social workers
2. Providing supervision, guidance, and professional development support
3. Overseeing statutory fostering functions, including foster carer reviews and approvals
4. Ensuring compliance with fostering regulations, national minimum standards, and local policies
5. Driving high-quality performance and quality assurance across the team
6. Supporting positive outcomes for children through stable placements
7. Contributing to audits, service planning, and strategic improvement initiatives
Who We’re Looking For You’ll be a confident leader with a solid background in fostering or children’s services and a passion for improving outcomes for children in care.
You will need:
8. A Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England
9. Proven experience managing or supervising within fostering or children’s social work
10. Strong understanding of fostering regulations, safeguarding, and statutory duties
11. A commitment to best practice, continuous improvement, and team development
12. Excellent communication and leadership skills
13. The ability to balance operational demands with strategic oversight
