Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Health & Safety Advisor to join the Health, Safety, Fire & Security Team.

This is a dynamic role, for an 18-month secondment, involving work across all Trust sites throughout Derbyshire. You will support the Head of Health & Safety, Fire & Security in ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and NHS Fire code standards.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

* Provide professional advice on all health & safety and incident prevention matters relating to staff and premises.
* Undertake health & safety audits, develop policies, safe systems of work, conduct accident/incident investigations, and advise staff on safety matters.
* Develop and deliver health & safety training, including face-to-face, e-learning, and risk assessment training, to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and guidance such as the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other NHS standards.
* This role covers all Trust sites, including those in other Trusts' buildings.

Job responsibilities

You will:

* Demonstrate the Trust's values in all work activities, living up to 'People First' and 'Respect'.
* Support the delivery of effective healthcare.
* Establish effective leadership and communication.
* Engage in continuing education and professional development.
* Participate in induction, training, supervision, and appraisal processes.
* Operate with a focus on quality and safety.
* Assist in promoting a positive health and safety culture across all directorates.
* Plan health and safety objectives and develop policies.
* Implement controls and monitoring to ensure policy compliance.
* Oversee incident investigations, reporting, and analysis, including external reporting to HSE (RIDDOR).
* Review performance and audit the health and safety management system.
* Line manage in the absence of the Head of Health, Safety, Fire & Security, and coordinate workload.
* Manage resources and resources allocated for health and safety improvements.
* Formulate and implement the Trust's health and safety strategy and policies.
* Provide specialist advice to senior staff and support project groups.

All staff are expected to participate in clinical supervision and keep accurate records related to their responsibilities.

The role aims to ensure the Trust's compliance with health and safety legislation and standards.

Qualifications

* NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent, with progress towards NEBOSH Diploma.
* Member of IOSH or working towards.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Valid driving license.


Knowledge and Skills

* Experience in health and safety management and accident prevention.
* Knowledge of legislation, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
* Ability to influence and implement compliance.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and incident reporting databases.
* Excellent organizational and communication skills.
* Understanding of NHS standards and health and safety regulations.


Experience

* Experience with health and safety issues, committee work, policy development, incident investigation, and training.
* Ability to work independently and proactively.
* Motivated with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Flexibility for out-of-hours work.

Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per annum, pro rata.
