Job Summary
The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 12,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.
At the Infantry Battle School (IBS), we proudly train over 1,800 students annually, including Defence personnel, Home-Office staff, and international partners. As the British Army's leading provider of training for Infantry officers and non-commissioned officers, we operate from two state-of-the-art training sites in Sennybridge and Caerwent (Powys). In this role, you will work closely with both civilian and military personnel, fostering a collaborative environment that is vital for delivering exceptional training. Reporting directly to the Commanding Officer, you will undertake a range of Information, Digital support and HR Project Management responsibilities. Collaborating with stakeholders across Defence, you will significantly contribute to the advancement of Digital, Media, and Information Management (IM). This position offers a dynamic and fulfilling experience, allowing you to work closely with military personnel and become an integral part of our team.
A key element of this role will be the independent prioritisation of tasks and the most efficient use of limited resources, this will involve robust engagement with multiple stakeholders at a range of ranks/grades.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The Digital Information Support Manager fulfils a critical role within the Battle School, providing continuity and stability to a very challenging remit. The role includes the coordination and enforcement of all aspects of Information Management Assurance and Innovation/Digital concepts for Blended Learning, including sharing best practice across IBS.
Main Responsibilities Will Include:
* Develop IM best practice across IBS in consultation with Commanding Officer's direction to include dissemination of Training findings and recommendations for continuous improvement across all divisions
* Support the Commanding Officer, Headquarters Staff and Divisions on Information Management (IM) issues and governance:
o Advise on IM policy and initiatives; oversee change programs
o Conduct SharePoint audits; manage permissions and metadata
o Serve as Subject Matter Expert on SharePoint Online and Records Management
o Administer the schools’ SharePoint page and attend relevant meetings
o Lead and manage Information Management projects, including Blended Learning and Defence Learning Environment (DLE) standardisation
o Champion Defence Connect and enhance SharePoint Online usage
o Support Training Headquarters with Training Assurance
o Perform data evaluations using Power Business Intelligence (BI) and Excel Power Queries
* Human Resource:
o Provide support to IBS Civil Servants (CS) and Line Managers on civilian HR matters, signposting to CS Policy, Procedures, and the Defence Business Services (DBS). Liaise with and support the Parent Unit Civilian Business Advisor as required
* Data Protection
o Act as Data Protection Advisor; maintain the Army Information Asset Register, ensuring data protection training compliance and prepare for inspections/audits performed by the Top Level Budget
* Digital Information Support
o Enhance digital learning experiences for IBS trainees
o Create online tests linked to My Training App; upload learning materials to DLE
o Develop Power BI and Power Apps for business processes and resource tracking
o Serve as site lead and Change Champion for My Training App

Person specification
You will provide both strategic and authoritative advice and support to IBS staff on all aspects of Information Management. This requires the exercising of professional judgement researching, analysing information, autonomous decision making and a good knowledge of Data Protection Law.
A key element of this role will be the independent prioritisation of tasks and the most efficient use of limited resources, this will involve robust engagement with multiple stakeholders at a range of ranks/grades.
You will be required to have strong oral and written communication skills as well as IT skills. You should be empathetic and understanding whilst remaining objective. You must be team player and willing to learn policy and processes and gain a working knowledge of the relevant Joint Service Publications and Army General and Administrative Instructions.
Essential Criteria:
* Basic understanding and use of information technology including familiarity with Microsoft (MS) Office 365 tools
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* A proven track record to build effective working relationships and work with a wide range of customers

Selection process details

At application you will be asked to provide a personal statement of no more than 500 words demonstrating your suitability for the role including previous knowledge and recent practical experience demonstrating strong written and oral communication skills and of effective working relationships with a wide range of customers.
