As a Field Engineer specialising in secure radio frequency (RF) communications within the defence sector, you will be responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and safeguarding of advanced RF communication systems designed for military and defence applications. This role requires a combination of a strong technical background, an understanding of secure communications, and a commitment to operational excellence in challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement, and maintain secure RF communication systems, including HF/VHF/UHF radios, modems, and associated network infrastructure, in accordance with defence standards and project requirements.
* Troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade secure communications equipment both in the field (e.g., naval vessels, military bases), across the South Coast (UK) and occasionally internationally.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including systems engineering, product management, and military personnel, to resolve technical challenges and deliver mission-critical solutions.
* Provide technical training and support to defence personnel on the operation and maintenance of secure RF communication equipment.
* Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system specifications, maintenance logs, and network diagrams, in line with military and regulatory standards.
* Stay current with emerging technologies, standards, and security protocols in RF communications relevant to the defence sector[1].

* Military background or experience working with armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) on communication systems. (Ideal but not essential)
* Professional certifications in radio communications, cybersecurity, or related fields.
* Experience with network infrastructure, encryption technologies, and cyber defence practices.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Proven experience in RF communications engineering, preferably within defence or mission-critical environments.
* Strong understanding of RF principles, spectrum management, and secure communications protocols.
* Proficiency in configuring, testing, and maintaining digital and analogue radio systems.
* Ability to obtain and maintain relevant security clearances as required by defence regulations.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in high-pressure situations.
* Willingness to travel and work in diverse and sometimes challenging environments, including naval and field deployments.
