Clinical Nurse Specialist - Cardio-Oncology

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our Cardio-Oncology CNS team. This post will be a fixed term 12 month contract to cover maternity leave.


Main duties of the job

The clinical cardio-oncology clinical nurse specialist is a role for an independent practitioner working within the multi-disciplinary cardio-oncology team. The post holder will work closely with the whole of the multidisciplinary team to take responsibility for helping to coordinate the clinical care of cancer patients with cardiovascular disease.

Responsibilities will include education of patients and colleagues, coordination of patients' care between the cardiology and oncology/ haematology teams including inpatient care, systematic data collection, clinical audit and multidisciplinary team meeting coordination The post holder will be expected to develop specialized skills and knowledge relating to the field and ultimately to perform nurse-led clinics with consultant cardiologist oversight alongside the main cardio-oncology clinics. The post-holder will be managed as part of the Heart Failure CNS team, with cross-cover as appropriate between colleagues.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* oRGN
* oBSc or working towards
* oRelevant cardiac or oncology course
* oMentorship/teaching course
* oCounselling course
* oIndependent prescribing course
* oPhysical assessment course or experience of this


Experience

* oPost registration experience including recent experience within cardiology
* oBand 6 experience


Skills

* oAbility to prioritise clinical work effectively
* oCan show a non-judgemental approach to patient care
* oAbility to work within set timeframes working to priorities and deadlines
* oAbility to monitor the quality of own work and others
* oAble to recognise own limits and work within those limits of competence
* oPrevious experience of nurse-led clinics or willingness to consider developing these
* oAbility to use and maintain resources efficiently and effectively and encourage others to do so
* oAbility to work autonomously and be proactive
* oAbility to reflect on practice
* oWord processing and data base skills
* oExperience in writing protocols
