Offer description

Working under the direction of registered healthcare professionals, this role will support the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. Core responsibilities include phlebotomy, ECG recording, simple wound care, assisting with health promotion activities, and supporting long-term condition reviews.

The post holder will work within clear parameters and lines of accountability after appropriate training and assessment of competence. The requirements of the post are linked to Level 3 of the District and General Practice Nursing Service Education and Career Framework (Health Service England).


Main duties of the job

Primary Duties and Areas of Responsibility

* Working within clinical guidelines and protocols, undertake and record:
* Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for laboratory analysis
* Temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate
* Weight, height, waist circumference, and Body Mass Index
* Measurement of legs for compression hosiery
* ECGs and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
* Near patient testing, e.g., blood glucose, lipids, and INR
* Doppler ultrasound measurements (working with a Registered Nurse)
* Measurement of airway function (Peak expiratory flow rate and spirometry)
* Obtain venous blood samples for investigation
* Administer selected vaccines in accordance with the national schedule and legislation

Carry out care of simple wounds and apply dressings. Remove wound closure materials including sutures, clips, and staples. Assist with the management of clinical supplies. Participate in quality improvement activities such as audits, development of protocols, and new services.

Job responsibilities

Quality

Manage personal time and workload effectively and efficiently. Meet deadlines and other performance benchmarks and reporting requirements for the PCN. Use significant event analysis to alert staff to areas of potential risk.

Education, Training, and Development

Undertake all relevant training as set out by The Personalised Care Institute. Engage with and participate fully in all mandatory training and development. Take personal ownership of the responsibility to keep up to date with the latest guidelines. Undertake additional training and development to close potential gaps in skills and knowledge.

Governance and Risk

Ensure the confidentiality and security of all information dealt with in the course of duties. Maintain all systems for Information Governance, GDPR, and confidentiality at all times.

Communication

Recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and strive to:

* Communicate effectively with other team members
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers
* Recognize people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly

Confidentiality

The post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to GP practices, patients, staff, and the organization. All such information must be regarded as strictly confidential and handled in accordance with LPC policies, IG regulations, and the Data Protection Act.

Patients entrust us with sensitive information and expect their privacy to be respected. Staff must act appropriately to maintain confidentiality.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience within a healthcare setting
* Experience within primary care


Qualifications

* Qualified in Phlebotomy
* Qualified to NVQ Level 3


Knowledge and Skills

* Skills in phlebotomy, ECGs, patient health checks, blood pressure
* Awareness of blood-borne viruses
* Ability to provide quality care
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Good organizational and time management skills
* Good team working skills
* Ability to work independently following instructions
* Knowledge of EMIS

Head of HR and People Management Services

Depending on experience, this role will be band 2-3 equivalent, level depending on experience.
