Description Nurture Teacher - fixed term until 26/06/2026 Rowanfield School Salary: £34,938 - £52,614 (pro-rata for part time) Hours: 23.1 per week We are looking for an enthusiastic nurture teacher with experience or a passion to make a difference in the life of a child. Opened in 2002 Rowanfield Special School (Primary) is situated in North of Edinburgh and is part of the Craigroyston High School learning community. The school meets the additional support needs of children from 5-12 years of age with a wide range of barriers to learning. The school serves a wide area with pupils travelling from across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Pupils are placed in school following a referral to The Education Placement Group (EPG). There are 12 teaching staff (including HT, DHT & 2 PTs). They are supported by 25 support staff including Pupil Support Workers, Pupil Support Officers, Administrator and Business Manager. We work closely with Allied Health Professionals and outside agencies such as NHS SLT, Spartans, CAMHS, Youth Music Initiative, Drake Music & Queen Margaret University. Our current school community has a very neurodivergent population, 6 classes (Willow & Hawthorn) have pupils which have an ever-expanding range of Social & Emotional needs and 3 communication classes (Sycamore) predominantly for pupils with complex language and communication difficulties such as ASD and Developmental delay. Many of the pupils in Willow & Hawthorn have experienced trauma, been out of full-time education for extended periods and have complex barriers to learning. We are looking for an enthusiastic nurture teacher with experience or a passion to make a difference in the life of a child who will actively participate in all activities with the pupils. In addition, candidates must have a strong knowledge of the curriculum, be an excellent practitioner, have experience with a range of needs, understand the influence adult’s behaviour has in a school and a track record in building relationships and raising attainment. Most importantly the successful candidate must have a sense of humour, be able to think creatively and be ready for the most rewarding of challenges. Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A n unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory. Lead the use of Boxall Profiles, including assessment, analysis, staff guidance, and application to planning and intervention. Gather and use transition information and assessment data from mainstream settings to support pupils moving into the school. Plan and deliver targeted small-group nurture sessions, including literacy, play-based learning, social communication, and group work. Create and maintain a safe, predictable, and nurturing environment that supports pupils’ emotional regulation, wellbeing, and readiness to learn. Provide individualised, needs-led teaching, informed by assessment, observation, and pupil voice. Develop, implement, and review targeted support plans based on pupil’s social, emotional needs. Monitor and evaluate the impact of nurture and inclusion interventions, adapting provision in response to emerging needs. Work collaboratively with class teachers, support staff, and SLT to ensure a consistent, whole-school approach to nurture. Prepare and contribute to written reports for parents/ carers.
