Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for an engineer to work on the modelling of airborne Free Space Optical Communication systems.
The successful candidate will work with sub-contractors and industry partners to construct models, devise and run experiments, and interpret results.
This role is within the Comms & Force Protection (Air) business group and offers excellent career progression opportunities within a leading technology company, along with an award-winning salary package.
What you will do
1. Build and maintain MATLAB models of optical-based airborne communication systems, including developing new blocks and integrating components from subcontractors and industry partners.
2. Investigate new approaches to meet customer requirements.
3. Run simulations to predict system performance.
4. Discuss experiments and results internally and with external stakeholders, including customers, partners, and subcontractors.
5. Collaborate with subcontractors and international partners to achieve common solutions.
6. Contribute to developing optical communication standards and work as part of a team creating an optical communications bearer. Provide input for proposals to establish internationally recognized standards.
What we're looking for
You must have:
* Knowledge of Free Space Optical Communications techniques.
* A strong technical background in electronics engineering, physics, or mathematics.
* Knowledge of communication system modelling or optics.
* Experience developing models to analyze performance of physical or information systems.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences.
It would be advantageous if you have:
* Systems Engineering techniques.
* Software Engineering techniques.
* Experience with MATLAB/SIMULINK.
* Knowledge of digital modulation, channel coding, and physical layer aspects of wireless systems.
* Knowledge of optics and optical systems.
