Reporting to the Director of Finance, you'll take ownership of financial control, reporting, and compliance while leading a capable finance team. Alongside core responsibilities, you'll be instrumental in modernising finance - exploring automation, improving systems, and driving smarter ways of working. Things to know: Job Title: Financial Controller Salary : £61,003 Location : Birmingham Working pattern : full-time - hybrid - 2-3 days onsite, rest working from home Responsibilities: Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, statutory accounts, and financial returns. Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, capex reporting, and compliance with accounting standards. Ensure robust financial controls and adherence to relevant legislation. Manage VAT and corporation tax submissions. Provide financial oversight and support to associated entities. Review, map, and enhance financial processes. Drive improvements across finance systems and reporting capabilities. Champion the use of automation and emerging technologies (including AI). Continuously evolve the chart of accounts to reflect business needs. Oversee cash flow forecasting and liquidity management in collaboration with stakeholders. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals. Set clear objectives and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Promote an inclusive, collaborative working environment. Manage the audit process and liaise with external auditors. Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and internal policy requirements. Partner with budget holders and senior stakeholders across the organisation. Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights. Requirements: Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA). Strong experience in financial management, ideally within a charity or not-for-profit environment. In-depth knowledge of Charity SORP, FRS 102, and statutory reporting. Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams. Experience improving financial systems, processes, and controls. Advanced Excel and strong financial systems expertise. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence non-financial stakeholders.
