Role Overview
As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the well-being, behavior, and social development of pupils. Working closely with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external agencies, you will help ensure that pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Provide emotional and pastoral support to pupils with MLD and Autism.
Implement strategies to promote positive behavior and manage challenging situations calmly.
Support pupils with social skills development, emotional regulation, and confidence building.
Liaise with teachers, parents/carers, and external professionals to create a consistent support network.
Maintain accurate records of behavior, attendance, and safeguarding concerns.
Contribute to Personal Development Plans and individual behavior strategies.
Assist with break and lunchtime supervision to ensure a safe, supportive environment.
Requirements
Experience in pastoral, mentoring, or behavior support roles within education or youth settings.
Understanding of MLD and Autism and the strategies to support pupils with these needs.
Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and families.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures (training can be provided).
Desirable:
Experience working in a special school or SEN setting.
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or equivalent).
