We are looking for a Data Quality Officer to help ensure that data recorded in the hospital information systems achieves the highest possible level of accuracy, completeness and timeliness. Working within the Data Quality team, this role is responsible for designing and carrying out checks on key hospital data, identifying issues and ensuring a satisfactory resolution. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the Trust’s systems and data entry processes, and through routine checks and corrective action will help to identify themes and root causes of issues which will lead to system changes, training programmes and other remedial actions.
The Data Quality Team is a growing team who provide an essential service to maintain the high levels of Data Quality within the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be organised and methodical and must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work autonomously and proactively. They must have excellent IT skills, in particular Microsoft Excel, the ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of people and explain complex problems simply. They will have a working knowledge of NHS data and terminology.
The main duties include:
1. To ensure Trust systems hold high quality administrative and clinical patient data by running routine checks and reports to identify errors and inconsistencies and providing feedback on problem areas
2. To help identify where data quality improvements can be made, to contribute to a good information culture providing support to staff where required, and acting as an ambassador for high Data Quality standards in the Trust

3. Performing routine Data Quality checks on data entered onto the Epic system
4. Liaise with the Data Quality Manager to help identify themes and overarching solutions or highlight training needs or further education within the Trust
5. Assist in carrying out regular audits within the Data Quality team. This will involve auditing data collected by various teams, e.g. Admissions, Referrals and other Clinic Areas and departments. Liaising with relevant staff members to resolve any Data Quality problems to ensure compliance and that all data is accurately recorded for all patients
6. To assist in training new team members in all Data Quality Team tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that new staff members achieve high data quality standards

Essential criteria
7. Educated to at least GCSE/A level
Desirable criteria
8. ECDL or higher certification
9. Degree or equivalent
Experience

10. Good understanding of medical terminology
11. Proven experience of working with Hospital Information Systems and NHS data or equivalent
12. Experience working in the NHS

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
