Job Title: Electrician - Industrial Location: Leeds Employment Type: [Full-time / Contract] Reports To: Site Supervisor / Project Manager Overview We are seeking an experienced Electrician to work on substation installation projects, focusing on glanding, terminating, and installing large power cables. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of HV/LV systems, excellent attention to detail, and a commitment to safe working practices in high?risk environments. Key Responsibilities Cable Glanding & Termination Prepare, gland, and terminate large?diameter LV/HV cables (e.g., armoured, multicore, PILC, XLPE). Ensure all terminations meet manufacturer specifications, engineering standards, and project requirements. Perform continuity, insulation resistance, and other verification tests where required. Installation Work Pull, route, and secure heavy power cables within substations, trenches, cable ladders, and containment systems. Install cable containment including trays, ladders, conduits, and brackets. Support the installation of switchgear, transformers, control panels, and earthing systems. Complete wiring of protection systems, control circuits, and auxiliary equipment. Safety & Compliance Work in accordance with all site safety rules, method statements, permits-to-work, and risk assessments. Maintain a clean and safe working area in a high?voltage environment. Ensure compliance with relevant electrical regulations and standards (e.g., BS 7671, industry best practice). Skills & Experience Proven experience in substation electrical installation work. Strong competence in glanding and terminating large LV/HV cables. Understanding of high?voltage equipment, switchgear, transformers, and protection systems. Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and cable schedules. Comfortable working in physically demanding conditions (lifting cables, confined areas, outdoor sites). Strong focus on safety and adhering to procedures. Qualifications NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent). 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). ECS/CSCS card (Electrician level). HV authorisation or substation access training (desirable). IPAF, PASMA, First Aid (advantageous). Personal Attributes Reliable and punctual with strong problem?solving abilities. Able to work independently or as part of a team. Good communication skills when coordinating with site supervisors and other trades. High attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
