Power & Data Systems Manager – full‑time (1.00 FTE), professional faculty position at Hatfield Marine Science Center, Newport, Oregon.
PacWave’s flagship open‑ocean wave‑energy test facility is looking for a manager to lead the engineering and operations of its power and data infrastructure, supporting the research, development, demonstration, and deployment of wave‑energy technologies.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and oversee PacWave’s power and data systems, including low and medium voltage (up to 36 kV) and SCADA systems.
* Lead and coordinate power and data personnel and contractors, ensuring optimal performance of network infrastructure.
* Coordinate with National Laboratory personnel and client operations, including oversight of testing and safety protocols.
* Manage sub‑sea power cables, data networks, and SCADA system maintenance, repair, and preventive testing.
* Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, NEC, NESC, and institutional safety procedures.
* Develop and manage power and data operation budgets and procurement.
* Provide emergency response leadership for equipment failures and facilitate root‑cause analysis.
* Support PacWave public outreach, conferences, and client coordination as required.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
* Three years of demonstrated experience in power and data management systems.
* Experience in project management and managing personnel.
* Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.
* Compliance with criminal history, motor‑vehicle history, and other university security checks for critical or security‑sensitive positions.
Preferred Qualifications
* Medium‑voltage electrical power equipment management, testing, and maintenance experience.
* Knowledge of protective relays, network administration, and engineering.
* Experience working with utility companies, federal power marketing administrations, or national laboratories.
* Experience in marine or renewable energy, especially wave‑energy or clean‑energy sectors.
* Professional experience in ocean engineering or related field.
* Experience with environmental sensing networks and offshore instrumentation.
* Advanced computing, MS Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat proficiency.
