Job Summary
We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, and customer-focused Retail Assistant to join our dessert kiosk team at Metrocentre Mall, Gateshead. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced retail environment, have a passion for food, and take pride in delivering outstanding customer service.
In this role, you will help create a positive customer experience, promote our dessert products, and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the kiosk.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
* Welcome customers in a warm and professional manner.
* Assist customers in choosing desserts based on preferences and dietary needs.
* Deliver excellent service to ensure a memorable customer experience.
Product Knowledge
* Develop strong knowledge of menu items, ingredients, and current promotions.
* Provide accurate information and recommendations to customers.
Sales & Upselling
* Promote additional items and special offers.
* Encourage repeat business and contribute towards achieving daily sales targets.
Order Processing & Payments
* Take customer orders accurately and efficiently.
* Handle cash, card, and mobile payments responsibly.
Kiosk Operations
* Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and attractive product presentation.
* Ensure displays are fully stocked and visually appealing.
Teamwork
* Collaborate with team members to maintain efficient service during busy periods.
* Communicate effectively to support smooth daily operations.
Stock & Inventory
* Assist with stock checks and proper stock rotation.
* Report low inventory levels to management promptly.
Health & Safety
* Follow all food hygiene, sanitation, and health & safety procedures.
* Maintain high cleanliness standards at all times.
Customer Feedback
* Handle customer queries or complaints professionally and resolve issues promptly.
Promotions & Marketing
* Support promotional activities and help attract new customers to the kiosk.
Reliability
* Demonstrate punctuality, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
Qualifications & Skills
* Previous experience in retail, customer service, or food service is preferred (training will be provided).
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
* Basic numeracy skills for handling transactions.
* Interest in desserts or food service is advantageous.
* Positive attitude with a professional and customer-first approach.
* Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to stand for extended periods.
* Comfortable lifting stock and supplies when required.
* Able to work in a busy, customer-facing environment.

Education & Experience
* GCSE or equivalent (preferred).
* Minimum 2 years' retail sales experience (required).
